Department Summary: 
The Center for Evaluation and Applied Research (CEAR) at NYAM works with a broad range of not-for-profit and governmental organizations to investigate and assess initiatives that seek to improve the health and well-being of populations. With expertise in both qualitative and quantitative research methods, CEAR conducts needs assessments, formative research, process evaluations, and outcome evaluations in partnership with community organizations, government agencies, health systems and others. CEAR also provides evaluation training and technical assistance to community-based organizations and other institutions in need of evaluation support. CEAR, along with the Center for Community Partnerships and Policy Solutions (CPPS) and the Center for Healthy Aging (CHA) comprise NYAM’s Research Department, which works to address health needs across all ages with a focus on health equity. Position Overview:
CEAR is seeking a full-time research assistant to provide support for mixed-methods, community-based evaluation projects related to health and healthcare, as well as the social, environmental, and structural determinants of health (e.g., healthy food access, quality housing). The CEAR team is a highly collaborative group that works together to complete a range of mixed-methods projects. We hope to find someone who is collaborative, dedicated, and can grow in this role. 
NYAM is currently operating under a hybrid (primarily remote) work model. However, this role requires regular in-person data collection and meetings so candidates must live (or relocate to a location) within commuting distance of NYAM.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Outreach and recruitment. Support recruitment of participants for research projects through community outreach. 
  • Data collection. Assist in the coordination and implementation of data collection activities such as interviews, focus groups and surveys.
  • Data analysis. Code qualitative interview and focus group transcripts and create tables to present quantitative data with the support of other CEAR staff, plus other related tasks. 
  • Project reporting. Collaborate on the preparation of project reports and presentations, including but not limited to conducting literature reviews, creating slides. May also be asked to draft report content as appropriate. 
  • Administrative support. Provide logistical support including but not limited to scheduling, preparing research materials, and sending and tracking participant incentives.  
  • Occasional travel within New York City and the US.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:

  • Highly motivated, organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
  • Strong interest in public health, program evaluation, social determinants of health, health policy, or other similar topics.
  • Ability to interact by phone and email with individuals from diverse populations. 
  • Ability to conduct in-person and virtual data collection on occasional weekends and evenings, depending on project needs.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet packages). Familiarity with NVivo preferred.
  • Knowledge of public health and qualitative and/or quantitative research methods preferred.

Language Skills:
Written and spoken English required. Fluency in Spanish highly desirable.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree and at least one year of relevant experience.

Salary & Compensation: 
$50,000-$56,000, depending on qualifications and experience. NYAM provides a comprehensive benefits package including generous PTO, employer-subsidized health insurance, and retirement contribution matching for eligible employees.
