Free and Subscription Databases

Academic OneFile
This database contains over 13,000 journals and reference sources, many of which are peer-reviewed and full text. It has extensive coverage of the physical sciences, technology, medicine, social sciences, the arts, theology, literature, and more.

ACP Journal Club
The editors of ACP Journal Club regularly screen the top clinical journals to identify methodologically sound and clinically relevant. Enhanced abstracts of the chosen articles are then written, including commentaries on the applicability of these studies to clinical practice.

Archives of Sexuality & Gender: Sex and Sexuality Sixteenth to Twentieth Century
Provides full-text access to resources about sexuality and gender roles, including topics on patterns of fertility and sexual practice; prostitution; religion and sexuality; the medical and legal construction of sexualities; the rise of sexology and more. In library use only.

Business and Company Resource Center
Coverage includes information on companies, markets, and industries via business and trade journals, newspapers, and company directory profiles.

ClasePeriodica
An index of Latin American journals in the sciences and humanities.

Directory of Open Access Journals
A searchable directory of open-access scientific and scholarly journals that use a control system to guarantee the quality of the content. No login needed.

Ebooks
OCLC catalog of online electronic books available through libraries worldwide.

ECO
An OCLC collection of scholarly journals.

ERIC
This database indexes journal articles and reports in education.

Encyclopedia Britannica Online
This full-text resource includes Encyclopedia Britannica and Britannica Concise Encyclopedia articles as well as media, Web sites, and videos. No login needed.

Free Medical Journals Online
Links to medical journals with full text or limited full-text availability. No login needed.

Free Medical Texts Online
Links to open-access medical textbooks. No login needed.

General OneFile
A general periodical database with more than 12,000 entries, more than half of which are full text. The backfile extends nearly 30 years. Subjects include humanities, education, environmental issues, technology, healthcare, and politics.

GPO
Access to U.S. government publications.

GreenFILE
GreenFILE offers well-researched information covering all aspects of human impact to the environment. The database provides indexing and abstracts for more than 384,000 records, as well as full-text for more than 4,700 records.

Health Reference Center Academic
Multi-source database provides access to the full text of nursing and allied health journals, plus a wide variety of personal health information sources.

History of Mass Tourism
History of Mass Tourism provides an in-depth look at the evolution of British and American working class tourism from c.1850 to 1980. With every continent represented, this full text resource gives a broad overview of the destinations unlocked for the average traveller throughout this period. In library use only.

Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts
Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts (LISTA) indexes more than 560 core journals, nearly 50 priority journals, and nearly 125 selective journals; plus books, research reports, and proceedings.

Medical Services and Warfare
Medical Services and Warfare provides multiple perspectives on the history of medical treatment during wartime.  Modules covering 1850 to 1927 and 1928 to 1949 are now available. This full text resource provides materials on public health, disability, rehabilitation, hospital care, nursing, personal experiences, the history of medical equipment, and many more topics on how medicine was shaped by war. MedlinePlus Medical Dictionary
A medical dictionary from the National Library of Medicine and Merriam-Webster. No login needed.

National Newspaper Index
Provides quick access to the indexing of The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Christian Science Monitor, The Los Angeles Times, and The Washington Post from 1977 to the present. This database does not contain full-text.

New York State Newspapers
Articles from 28 major newspapers published in the state of New York, including The New York Times and The New York Post. Some full text available.

NOVELNY NewYork Online Virtual Electronic Library

Provides full-text access to resources on the development of the United States public health system in the twentieth century, including resources from the Committee on Public Health of the New York Academy of Medicine, The Library of Social and Economic Aspects of Medicine from Michael M. Davis, Records of the Children's Bureau, 1912-1969 and public health pamphlets. In library use only.

PubMed
The free search interface for MEDLINE, the premier database of the National Library of Medicine indexing over 5,000 current biomedical journals. Coverage is from the 1950s-present. Some full text available. No login needed.

PubMed Central
A free full-text archive of biomedical and life sciences journal literature from the U.S. National Institutes of Health's National Library of Medicine (NIH/NLM).
