Join colleagues and community leaders to tackle weather exposure’s impact on community health. New York Academy of Medicine (NYAM) is hosting a local action convening to develop specific recommendations to bolster primary care outcomes. Featuring a Keynote with Ann Kurth, PhD, CNM, MPH, president & CEO of New York Academy of Medicine; Sonia Angell, MD, MPH, Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of the Practice, Johns Hopkins University; Alister Martin, commissioner of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene; and Mitch Katz, MD, president and CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals.

Keynote Presenters

Mitchell H. Katz, M.D.

President and Chief Executive Officer New York City Health + Hospitals

Dr. Katz is the President and Chief Executive Officer of New York City Health + Hospitals, the largest municipal health system in the United States, with 11 acute care hospitals, 5 skilled nursing facilities, a large array of community health centers, and the medical service caring for inmates at Rikers Island correctional facility . He is the Deputy Editor of JAMA Internal Medicine, an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences and a practicing primary care doctor.

Alister F. Martin, MD, MPP

Commissioner of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene

Dr. Alister Martin is the Commissioner of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. An emergency physician and Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Martin served as a senior advisor in the office of Vice President Kamala Harris as a White House Fellow, and previously as a health policy advisor to Governor Peter Shumlin of Vermont and Congressman Raul Ruiz of California. He earned his MD from Harvard Medical School as a Presidential Scholar and his Master in Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School. Born in New York City, he spent his early childhood in Jackson Heights, Queens, and now returns home to serve as Health Commissioner.
