Designing & Conducting Research for Impact
Research and programs from New York Academy of Medicine are powered by a multidisciplinary team with deep expertise in mixed methods research, implementation science, evaluation, systems analysis, capacity building, and narrative health. From community health needs assessments to technical assistance cohorts, we work across the healthspan and across levels — from neighborhood to national — partnering with community-based organizations, healthcare systems, academic institutions, and public agencies. We co-create research that is grounded in lived experience and designed for real-world application that is guided by our dynamic model for impact, engaging communities, generating actionable research, building capacity, convening stakeholders, and using narrative to reengage and drive change.
We don’t just study problems: we build tools, train partners, and tell stories that move people and policy. Whether producing toolkits, dashboards, or narrative films, we help solve complex health challenges and advancing population health across New York City and beyond.
Building Capacity
We strengthen organizations and communities by providing tailored training, technical assistance, and strategic guidance. NYAM’s capacity-building efforts support sustainable programs and systems change, from grassroots initiatives to institutional transformation. Whether leading learning collaboratives, developing toolkits and dashboards, or facilitating cross-sector partnerships, our team equips stakeholders with the skills and resources needed to implement evidence-based solutions. We work alongside partners to build infrastructure, foster leadership, and scale impact across the city and beyond.
Convening and Engaging Diverse Voices
New York Academy of Medicine brings together researchers, community advocates, healthcare providers, and policymakers to co-create solutions for today’s most pressing health challenges. Our convenings — ranging from roundtables and symposia to community forums and policy briefings — are designed to elevate lived experience, foster collaboration, and drive systems-level change. We create inclusive spaces where diverse voices are heard, respected, and translated into action. Influencing the Narrative
Narrative Health is our pioneering approach to transforming research into compelling stories that resonate across audiences. By integrating patient and community voices into research, policy, and training, we move toward more empathetic and sustainable population health. Our multimedia products (including short films, digital stories, and interactive tools) build health literacy, influence behavior, and catalyze public conversation. These narratives extend the reach of research, connecting personal experience with systemic issues and mobilizing change at every level.
