Friends,
Fighting for better health for all of us has never been more necessary—and The New York Academy of Medicine has never been more needed than it is today, 175 years after our founding.
For many of us, 2022 brought continued challenges influenced by social, political and environmental change, leading to a critical juncture for health and for equity.
Now is the time for all of us to come together, to lend our collective voices, and to play an important role in moving public health forward. Join us in this effort by recommitting to your support of NYAM so that we can continue to be a leading voice for innovation in public health, addressing timely and critical issues.
- In the era of climate change, more children are at risk of asthma attacks. NYAM's Bridges to Health Equity collaborative addresses asthma for the most vulnerable.
- As stark racial inequities in birth outcomes and maternal health continue to exist, NYAM's innovative community-based research on reproductive justice and health equity identifies real solutions for addressing systemic issues.
- Ensuring the health and well-being of our aging population is a strategic and operational priority for the Governor of New York, and NYAM plays a pivotal role in convening experts to provide ideas and guiding principles for the State's new Master Plan on Aging.
But there's still so much more to be done. We know that it will take all of us to tackle the change ahead. In this spirit of collaboration, I'm honored to join you as the next leader of The New York Academy of Medicine—a distinguished institution with a storied history and an active focus on a future with better health. I am excited to join NYAM—and you—in making a significant and sustainable impact on health in our beloved city and beyond.
Addressing health improvement is the thread of my work life and the north star that we aim for at NYAM.
In this era of widening disparities and political polarization, climate change–related health impacts and attacks on science itself, it will take all of us together to continue using evidence and community input to meet human needs. I hope we can count on your continued partnership and support. Please make your donation today and be part of the bold thinking that continues to be the hallmark at NYAM.
Your donation makes our crucial work possible. Thank you for joining us. I look forward to updating you on our work in the year ahead.
Be well,
Ann Kurth, PhD, CNM, MPH
President-Designate
