Ann Kurth

Ann Kurth, PhD, CNM, MPH

Ann Kurth, PhD, CNM, MPH became President of New York Academy of Medicine on January 1, 2023.

Dr. Ann Kurth joined New York Academy of Medicine from Yale University, where she was the Dean and Linda Koch Lorimer Professor at Yale School of Nursing and Professor, Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases at Yale School of Public Health.

An epidemiologist and certified nurse-midwife, Dr. Kurth draws from multidisciplinary perspectives. Dr. Kurth’s work has focused on HIV, reproductive health, and health system strengthening, in the context of climate change, pandemics, and other stresses. Her science has been funded by the NIH, Gates Foundation, and others, for studies in the US and internationally. Dr. Kurth has authored over 250 publications and is working on a book about climate-resilient health systems. Dr. Kurth was on the US Preventive Services Task Force, and is chair emeritus of the Consortium of Universities for Global Health. She currently co-chairs the Age-Friendly NYC Commission and is a member of Governor Hochul’s NYS Commission on the Future of Health Care.

Dr. Kurth is an elected Fellow of the National Academy of Medicine, where she co-chairs the Climate Interest Group; of the American Academy of Nursing; and of the American College of Nurse-Midwives. Dr. Kurth received her AB magna cum laude from Princeton, her MPH from Columbia, her MSN from Yale, and her PhD in epidemiology from University of Washington; she has an honorary doctorate from U Mass Amherst Chan Medical School.
