Biographical Statement

Dr. Cole was born in Lake Mahopac, New York and graduated from the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University in 1898. He was a professor of roentgenology at Cornell Medical School from 1912-1921 and president of the American Roentgen Ray Society 1916-1917. He was also a member of the American Gastroenterological Association. Dr. Cole was probably the first to advocate the use of x-rays in the diagnosis of tuberculosis of the lung and established a scientific basis for his convictions. He is the author of two textbooks, contributor to other texts and author of over one hundred articles in medical journals.

The collection includes correspondence, a biography, photographs, legal documents, article reprints, and items of social ephemera from the late 1890s and early 1900s.
