The purpose of the Academy Section on Anesthesiology is the study and advancement of knowledge in the field.
One of the events held annually is Anesthesiology Residents’ Night, where top residents from the area’s Anesthesiology programs present their research. Other recent events have included an Anesthesiology Jeopardy and Case Report Presentation Night.

The Section on Anesthesiology held its Annual Poster Presentation Night for Residents and Fellows on October 10, 2022. Participants from Icahn School of Medicine/ Mount Sinai West, Weill Cornell Medicine/New York Presbyterian Hospital, and New York University Langone Hospital displayed their research. Prizes were awarded to Dr. Yamakawa from Weill Cornell for his work on “Improving Accuracy and Efficiency of Regional Block Administration for Breast Surgery” and to Dr. Borhorquez from Icahn School of Medicine, Mount Sinai West for “ Severe Laryngospasm During Gender Affirmation Surgery: A Link to Testosterone Therapy.
The highly popular Annual Anesthesiology Jeopardy Competition Night will return in May 2023, the date to be announced. Top residents from Anesthesiology programs in the greater New York/New Jersey area test their knowledge against one another in a Jeopardy competition hosted by Adam D. Lichtman, MD, FASE, Chief Vascular Anesthesiology Weill Medical College of Cornell University.
