The Academy offers a range of research fellowships to experienced physicians and investigators to support the advancement of biomedical research, healthcare studies, and healthcare delivery.
The New York Academy of Medicine Academic Research Award in Dermatology Program provides funding for residents and early-career dermatologists performing basic science or clinical research relevant to the field of dermatology. Awards in the amount of up to $10,000 each are awarded on a competitive basis. These awards are intended to help the recipient further his or her academic career, and may serve as a basis for obtaining further/future funding.

In honor of the legacy of Dr. James McCune Smith, the first African-American to earn his MD, this award acknowledges the excellence of young physicians from Black, Afro-Latino or Native American backgrounds who are making outstanding contributions in the field of clinical care and research, and are actively invoved in research regarding healthcare disparities. The winner of this award will receive acknowledgment by The New York Academy of Medicine and present a research paper at the Inaugural Dr. James McCune Smith Lecture and Awards Reception. Physician clinicians and faculty from these backgrounds practicing in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut are invited to apply.
To honor the visionary role of Jeremiah A. Barondess, MD in medical education, and to recognize his teaching of clinical skills at the bedside to generations of medical students and residents, the New York Academy of Medicine in collaboration with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) recently established The Jeremiah A. Barondess Fellowship in the Clinical Transaction. The Fellowship provides resources to junior faculty in internal medicine with a university appointment to enhance the clinical skills of physicians in training.
The Glorney-Raisbeck Junior Faculty Research Award is a one-year award of up to $85,000. Its goal is to support promising junior clinical/research faculty in Cardiology or Cardiothoracic Surgery as they prepare to submit NIH or AHA career development awards. The award is intended for applicants with demonstrable prior research experience (as reflected in first-authored publications) who have either applied for or are close to applying for a career development award from the NIH, AHA, or similar organization.
The Glorney-Raisbeck Fellowship Award in Cardiovascular Diseases is a one-year, $70,000 grant awarded for research by young physician scientists in supervised programs that will develop the candidates' ability to perform independent clinical or laboratory research. Up to three Fellowships will be awarded.
The Ferdinand C. Valentine Fellowship Award offers a one-year, $50,000 fellowship in support of research by an individual who has completed, or will shortly complete, residency training acceptable to the American Board of Urology, and who intend to pursue an academic research career in urology. Fellows must commit no less than fifty percent of their time to the supported research and preference is given to investigators conducting their research at institutions in the greater New York area.
