Join us as we learn about the Naturally Occurring Retirement Community (NORC) model in NYC and beyond, through the work and archives of Nat Yalowitz (1930-2023). Nat was a decades-long resident of Mutual Redevelopment Houses, also known as Penn South Apartments in Chelsea and a founder of Penn South Social Services, the nonprofit that created the Penn South Program for Seniors. We will hear from his family and colleagues at JASA about his impact on the NORC movement, and view some of the items from his archives, recently donated to the NYAM Library. We will also learn about an exciting new venture in Harlem that builds upon Nat’s original vision for helping older New Yorkers age-in-place.
