The New York Academy of Medicine Library is pleased to invite you to a screening of the Independent Spirit Award winning film, “How to Blow Up A Pipeline”. The film is based on a controversial, best-selling, non-fiction book by Swedish ecologist, Andreas Malm. Taking inspiration from that book, the film introduces eight individuals who make a contentious decision to try and fight for their future against a shared environmental enemy.
In addition to the screening, we will be holding a talkback on what you can do to combat climate change in your own neighborhood. Our guest speaker will be Briana Carbajal, State Legislative Manager at WE ACT for Environmental Justice. Briana works with State legislators and agencies to create policies that combat environmental inequalities.
On display will be items from our collection that deal with the history of recycling, conservation, and fighting pollution. While the first Earth Day wasn’t celebrated until 1970, activists have been fighting to keep the planet clean long before. Attendees will also have a chance to win one of three books addressing climate change.
Movie-watching refreshments will be served.
