This month's Around the Table discussion will focus on healthcare for transgender individuals. During Pride Month and with an array of controversial and elevated national conversations related to the transgender community, we want to provide guidance to healthcare professionals to understand the unique needs of transgender individuals in order to deliver affirming, compassionate treatment—ensuring health and safety for all.

NYAM President Judith A. Salerno, MD, MS, will be joined by David Rosenthal, DO, PhD, the founding medical director of the Center for Transgender Care; the medical director for the Center for Young Adult, Adolescent and Pediatric HIV; and an attending physician in the Division of Allergy/Immunology, all at Northwell Health. Dr. Rosenthal will discuss the importance of asking the right questions, listening carefully to the answers, and using them as a starting point for an honest discussion about all aspects of a patient’s well-being.

Around the Table, a quarterly series of roundtable discussions, focuses on relevant health equity issues and offers tested, actionable solutions. A key feature of the program will be a “What can I do?” segment at the end of the discussion. These action items will also be shared with attendees and the public following the event on NYAM’s whatcanido.nyc website.

Special thanks to the NYAM Advocates for Health Equity for their generous support of our public programming.
