In recognition of World AIDS Day on December 1 and acknowledging the momentous loss and impact of HIV and AIDS on public health, we’re honored to display a section of the AIDS Memorial Quilt, along with exhibits of some treasures within our walls, including vintage posters, postcards, buttons, and other materials created in response to the AIDS epidemic.

Join NYAM Library Director Paul Theerman, and the former Director of NYAM’s Center for Urban Epidemiological Studies David Vlahov, who will recall this chilling time in the history of the city, the nation, and the world. The Library team will be on hand to share their insights on the collection and its importance. We welcome you to network, peruse the displays, and enjoy light refreshments.

The Library collections chronicle the rise of medicine and public health around the world. Each year we offer tours of our collections and host lectures and public events, using the insights of history to shed light on current challenges in medicine and public health. We’re proud to welcome everyone who wants to use our collections. The AIDS Memorial Quilt panel will remain on display at NYAM through December.
