First edition of this work on childbirth and delivery by the well-respected physician and accoucheur Joseph Raulin. Raulin (1708-84), physician-in-ordinary to the King and a fellow of the London Royal Society, had an extensive practice and was a prolific writer on medical and balneological subjects. His writings were known for their clarity and for his keen observations. The present work, as well as his Instructions succinctes sur les accouchements en faveur des sages-femmes des provinces, are announced on the titlepages as ‘faite par ordre du ministère.’ Raulin was elected a fellow of the Royal Society of London in 1776. A prolific author, his works on gynecology and obstetrics were particularly respected and translated into many languages.
