Hermann Renlow. The Human Eye and its auxiliary organs. London: George Philip & Son, n.d.
This first English edition of this slim introduction to the anatomy of the eye makes use of a movable model on the rear paste-down, incorporating a number of flaps. Improvements in printing technologies drove forward the market in popular medical works, allowing for the sharing and distribution of texts and images more easily. The noted London firm of Philips, already renowned for a series of anatomical and technical model books incorporating chromolithograph illustrations with flaps, would have been an obvious choice for Renlow, wishing to disseminate his work further. Our edition dates to approximately 1896.
