Friedrich Benjamin Osiander. Ausführliche Abhandlung über die Kuhpocken. Gottingen: Christian Friedrich Thomas, 1801.
This early nineteenth-century first edition by Friedrich Benjamin Osiander is one of the earliest works in German on cowpox and vaccination. Osiander (1759-1822) was a distinguished professor of medicine and obstetrics at Göttingen; he invented the uterine traction forceps and advocated the extensive use of forceps in delivery. He was also one of the first physicians in Germany to support Jenner. A color engraved folding plate depicts a hand afflicted by cowpox eruptions.
