"Transgender:Speaking Out for Better Health" is the first report in the Academy series, "City Voices:New Yorkers on Health." Based on the results of a broad and revealing Community Needs Assessment focusing on the physical and mental health needs of New Yorkers from a range of communities, "Transgender:Speaking Out for Better Health" includes a rare collection of personal narratives, supported by data, on the health interests and issues that impact the city's transgender residents. The report is the result of surveys and focus groups conducted in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx, with residents representing more than 10 ethnic and cultural groups, talking about the issues that have the greatest impact on their overall health and wellbeing. Community health advocates also express their views on how to improve health care for transgender city residents.
