Tuesday through Friday, except holidays: 10:00 am to 4:45 pm, by appointment

Call the Historical Collections Librarian at 212-822-7315 or email library@nyam.org, at least five workdays in advance.

Morning appointments (10:00 am to 1:00 pm) and afternoon appointments (1:30 pm to 4:45 pm) are offered to readers. Spaces are limited. Morning readers may extend their time into the afternoon if space is available.  

Prepare for Your Appointment

  • Search our online catalog.
  • Let us know which materials you need from our collection, and we will have your items waiting for you when you arrive. Please provide your list of requested materials at least three workdays before your scheduled visit. 

  • If you're not sure where to start, contact the Historical Collections Librarian. Note: Collections are housed in closed stacks and are not available for browsing.

The New York Academy of Medicine is wheelchair accessible via a ramp at the entrance to the building, as well as by elevators. If you have any comments, questions, or suggestions regarding accessibility, please contact us. 

Drop-in Tours

Join us on the first Monday of every month (excluding holidays) to see highlights from the collection in the Drs. Barry and Bobbi Coller Rare Book Reading Room. Meet at 12:00 noon in the Academy building lobby. Visitors will need to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 and wear a mask.
