Become a donor of The Library Annual Fund and join an engaged and intimate group, passionate about preserving our collections in support of our mission of preserving and promoting the heritage of medicine and health.

Our 550,000 books, manuscripts, archives, and illustrations form our extraordinary collections. We make our treasures freely available to scholars, researchers, and the general public alike. With their vast reach across medicine, public health, food and cookery, botany, anthropology and myriad other subjects, our collections trace the development of medicine from its ancient roots through today. This legacy offers invaluable and fascinating insights into historical attempts to understand health and illness, as well as illuminating today’s critical issues.

Gifts to the Library Annual Fund ensure the vitality of the Library and its collections. Investments help underwrite the Library’s public programs and outreach activities; the acquisition, conservation, and cataloging of remarkable historical materials; and digitization of our key Library treasures.

A note to our loyal supporters:

Dear Friends,
You ought to have received the news by now:  we are asking supporters of the Library to become donors to the Library Fund. As such, the Friends of the Rare Book Room will be phased out. We have seen that the purpose of the Friends—to support the Library and its activities and programs—had become the same as the purpose of the Library Fund. Generous contributors in both arenas supported the same mission and work. By asking for contributions to the Library Fund, we can appeal to as wide an audience as possible.

With the shift in emphasis, what we now do will continue: look for a celebratory lecture and reception this spring, special events and tours, continued expert service for our patrons, and notes from me from time to time about what is happening in the Library. We appreciate all that you do for us, and we look forward to keeping that connection.
