Guided by a mission to make New York the healthiest state, the Advancing Prevention Project offers local health departments the following free services:

  • Peer-to-Peer learning collaboratives with dynamic virtual meetings that cover strategic interventions, evaluation, multi-sector partnerships, resource sharing, and solutions to shared challenges;
  • Topical webinars with presentations by subject-matter experts;
  • Curated resources, relevant trainings, and events relevant to NYSPA work; and
  • One-on-one technical assistance with experts who have “boots on the ground” implementation expertise.

The Advancing Prevention Project (APP) is possible through generous funding from the New York State Health Foundation. Our programs have engaged health professionals from every county in New York State.

One-on-One Technical Assistance

Local Health Department staff working on the Prevention Agenda implementation can schedule one-on-one technical assistance with Advancing Prevention Project staff from The Academy. During these calls, participants can expect to receive information, resources, and referrals to technical experts with “boots on the ground” implementation expertise. Follow-up calls and services may be scheduled with The Academy staff or arranged directly with our professional partners. Learning Collaboratives

Advancing Prevention Project learning collaboratives provide the opportunity for participants to work together across counties on specific intervention strategies from the New York State Prevention Agenda. APP conducts a needs-based assessment for each topic area to focus the content on the immediate needs of participating LHDs and formulate clearly stated objectives. Each collaborative meets up to three times per year, in small teams. These virtual meetings are facilitated by staff from The Academy via our GoToWebinar platform, which allows for videoconferencing and dynamic participation in discussions. Local health departments are encouraged to invite their partners to relevant meetings to glean information from presenting content experts.

Webinars

The Academy works with statewide partners like the New York State Association of County Health Officials (NYSACHO) and Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) to provide learning and networking opportunities through online webinars focused on relevant topics in preventative health.

Previous webinars can be found by topic on Tools & Publications. Future webinars from APP and our partners are posted on the Events page and e-alerts provided to all local health departments.
