Mark your career as a New York Academy of Medicine Fellow or supporter by naming a seat in Hosack Hall. For nearly a century, this significant auditorium has built a rich legacy as home to seminal lectures and educational programs, the Academy’s Annual Honors Ceremony and Anniversary Discourse, distinguished speakers, and cultural arts programs. It is in this architecturally celebrated hall where Fellows and Academy supporters continue to enrich their careers as health professionals and learn about the important issues of the day. Naming a seat is a gift that preserves and enhances this legacy.
Make a Lasting Contribution
With a donation to the Name Your Seat Campaign, you have the opportunity to enjoy having your name or that of another person you wish to honor engraved on an elegant plaque placed on the arm of a theater seat. Your participation guarantees that you and the person you honor will be a visible part of this historic and treasured auditorium for years to come.
Proceeds from your gift will help sustain and grow the Academy’s engaging roster of educational and cultural programs. With more than 2,000 Fellows, the Academy hosts more than 100 events annually which bring together experts in diverse fields. The Academy’s world class medical library has been a critical resource for Fellows since its founding in 1847.
Expanding on its mission as a resource for research, the Library now presents a robust and expanding calendar of public programs that explore the interactions of medicine, the humanities and the arts over time and promotes the continued development of these connections for the future.
You can dedicate a seat:
• As an individual, couple, or family
• For your children, grandchildren, or parents
• In memory of a loved one
• With the name of your organization
• To honor a colleague or friend who has made an important professional contribution to your organization or the Academy
To inaugurate our Name Your Seat Campaign, it is most fitting that the first seat has been purchased by NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in honor and memory of Eliot Lazar, MD, who served for more than a decade as Chairman of the Academy’s Committee on Admissions and Membership. Dr. Lazar was Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for Quality at NewYork-Presbyterian when he died in 2014. Remembered as an extraordinary leader, clinician, educator and administrator, he set an example of integrity, humility and commitment to excellence throughout his medical career. We are most grateful to NewYork-Presbyterian’s CEO and Academy trustee, Steven J. Corwin,MD, for launching the Name Your Seat Campaign with this tribute to Dr. Lazar.
