Our reference librarians are available to help you with your information needs. We offer the public the following research services:

In Person
A reference librarian is on duty to assist patrons with research needs every day. Reference hours are:

Monday, Tuesday and Thursday
10:00am - 12:00pm and 1:00pm - 4:00pm
Wednesday
10:00am -12:00pm, 1:00pm - 4:00pm, and 5:00pm - 7:00pm
Friday
9:00am - 5:00pm

Telephone Reference
A reference librarian may be reached by telephone during the reference hours listed above.

• The New York Academy of Medicine Library general telephone number is (212) 822-7300.

Generally, reference telephone service is limited to 5 minutes. Reference librarians can provide you with the following information via telephone:

• physician credential information
• definitions from a medical dictionary
• answers to short, factual inquiries
• journal publication information
• information about the book and journal holdings of the Academy Library
• submission of retrieval requests for up to five items prior to a library user's visit (requests are placed on hold at the Library's front desk)

Please note: Reference staff may not answer questions of a pharmaceutical nature or provide interpretation of medical literature. The Academy Library does not provide physician referrals.

Email Reference
You may contact the reference librarians via email at library@nyam.org. Email reference is subject to the same restrictions as telephone reference as outlined above. Reference questions received via email will be answered in as timely a manner as possible. For more immediate assistance, please call (212) 822-7315.

Fee-based Research Services
A reference librarian will do a literature search, and mail or fax you the results. Research services are $85 an hour (minimum charge is $45 for 1/2 hour). A Visa, MasterCard or American Express number is required with your request.
