Our reference librarians are available to help you with your information needs. We offer the public the following research services:

In Person
A reference librarian is on duty to assist patrons with research needs every day by appointment. Appointment hours are:

Tuesday - Friday
10:00am - 4:45pm

Telephone Reference
A reference librarian may be reached by telephone at the following times:

Monday - Friday
9:00am - 5:00pm

• For direct reference assistance, please call (212) 822-7315.

Generally, reference telephone service is limited to 5 minutes. Reference librarians can provide you with the following information via telephone:

• physician credential information
• definitions from a medical dictionary
• answers to short, factual inquiries
• journal publication information
• information about the book and journal holdings of the NYAM Library
• submission of retrieval requests for up to five items prior to a library user's visit (requests are placed on hold at the Library's front desk)

Please note: Reference staff may not answer questions of a pharmaceutical nature or provide interpretation of medical literature. The NYAM Library does not provide physician referrals.

Email Reference
You may contact the reference librarians via email at library@nyam.org. Email reference is subject to the same restrictions as telephone reference as outlined above. Reference questions received via email will be answered in as timely a manner as possible. For more immediate assistance, please call (212) 822-7315.

Chat Reference
You may contact the reference librarians via Meebo chat. Chat reference service is limited to information about the NYAM Library’s collections and services. This service is available Tuesday - Friday, 10am - 1pm and 2pm - 5pm. For more extensive reference service please make an appointment either by email (library@nyam.org) or by calling the Reference Desk at (212) 822-7315.
