Access to Publications in the Academy Library
The Academy Library carries over 800,000 books, peer-reviewed journals, pamphlets and ephemeral publications from grey literature. Items listed in the publications database as "Available" are physically housed in the library.

To retrieve a staff pubication, first identify whether the item is a book/pamphlet/report, a journal, or an article published in a journal and follow the instructions below.

Requesting Books/Pamphlets/Reports
Books held by the Academy are listed in the Academy's Online Catalog. The catalog will tell you which editions the library owns, where the material is shelved, and more, so that you can visit the library and easily request the item you'd like.

You may also request a book if you are affiliated with the Academy or are associated with a member library of DOCLINE or OCLC. The Academy does not lend books to unaffiliated users.

Requesting Journal Articles
All journals physically held by the Academy are listed in the Online Catalog by the title of the journal itself, such as the New England Journal of Medicine or the Journal of Urban Health. If you know the journal title in which your desired article appeared, search by that title in the Online Catalog.

Please note: Journal articles that are available at the Academy Library are not listed in the catalog by the article's title or author.

Once you have identified that the Academy owns the journal title, you may request a specific article while visting the Library or have a copy sent to you for a fee of $25.00 per article via US mail.
