The Library's Full Collection: the Online Catalog
The Online Catalog
As a general rule, this online catalog includes entries for:
- all periodicals in the collection
- all library material acquired since 1972
- the majority of library material acquired or published between 1801 and 1971
- much but not all of the library's holdings of books published before 1801, and
- a very small number of the Academy Library's holdings of more than 150,000 pamphlets
For material not represented in the online catalog it is necessary to consult the library's on-site card catalog, or the printed Subject Catalog of the Library (34 volumes plus a 4-volume supplement) and Author Catalog of the Library (43 volumes plus a 5-volume supplement). The printed catalogs contain images of all cards filed in the card catalog through approximately 1970. They are an excellent alternative to the card catalogs, and are available at many medical and academic libraries.

Academy Publications by Topic
All publications produced by Academy staff members during the presidency of Jeremiah A. Barondess, M.D., are listed in a searchable database. The publications are sorted by the topic that they address, the date on which they were published, and the Academy division that produced them. Some of the topics on which Academy scientists publish include asthma, child/school health, environmental health, ethics, geriatrics, handgun safety, health policy, HIV/AIDS, hospitals, immigrant health, infectious disease, insurance issues, Medicaid, mental health, partnerships/collaboration, reproductive health, substance use and urban disaster.
