The Lewis and Jack Rudin New York Prize for Medicine and Health was established to provide a forum for a distinguished member of the health care community to receive recognition from colleagues and the public at large.

The Prize aims to draw attention to opportunities in New York State and national health care reform for creating financial incentives to promote individual and community-based prevention and to create healthy communities that make it easier for people to make healthy choices. It recognizes that the health care sector can be a force for change to promote health and prevent threats to health such as obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, and pulmonary disease, which share the same risk factors as tobacco and alcohol use and are heavily tied to the high costs of our health care system.
