The New York Academy of Medicine is honored to present the 2010 Millie and Richard Brock Lectureship and Award in Pediatrics to Dr. Jonathan D. Klein, MD, MPH. The Brock Lectureship and Award was established by Millie and Richard Brock in 1995 on the 100th anniversary of NYAM’s Section on Pediatrics. The award is given annually to a nationally recognized leader for distinguished contributions to pediatrics, who also engages in a visiting professorship at a New York area pediatric training program and delivers the Brock Lecture.

The lecture will discuss the role of aldosterone in patients with chronic systolic hf and hf post mi based upon the rales, ephesus, and recently completed emphasis-hf trials and discuss the ongoing trial of aldosterone blockade in patients with hf and a normal left ventricular function (topcat). Pathphyiologic evidence supporting the application of aldosterone blockade to several new indications including resistant hypertension, the metabolic syndrome, chronic renal disease, atherosclerosis, and stroke will be reviewed, as well as the effect of aldosterone blockade on potassium homeostasis.
