Background
The New York Academy of Medicine (NYAM) has been advancing the health of people in cities since 1847. Summary
The Office of Development and Communications seeks an experienced professional to join its team as a Senior Development Associate in Corporate and Foundation Relations. The individual selected will identify funding sources to support existing and planned program activities, and coordinate the development, writing and submission of grant proposals. The position is also responsible for collecting, analyzing and reporting data on grant activities. Position reports to the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations. Individual will work on other aspects of NYAM fundraising and perform other duties as assigned.

Primary Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities include preparation of proposals and grant applications and administrative work in researching, identifying, developing and responding to public and private grant opportunities. Candidates should possess excellent writing and computer skills and must be highly organized with the ability to implement systems and follow-up processes, ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, use independent judgment and produce a quality proposal within tight time constraints. Previous experience will include a proven track record in securing new funding opportunities, a comprehensive knowledge of research, and the ability to identify funding opportunities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Research and identify new corporate and foundation funding prospects; generate revenue for NYAM programs and research through timely submission of grant proposals
  • Maintain and implement funding calendar activities, including cultivation activities
  • Act as liaison with NYAM program staff

    Qualifications:
    Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred; five years non-profit work experience; outstanding writing skills; organized, detail-oriented and self-motivated; track record in managing multiple tasks, details and meeting deadlines; excellent interpersonal skills; computer literate in Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, fundraising database knowledge a plus; a strong commitment to the NYAM mission
