Leslie Goldman is the Director of Office of School Health Programs at The New York Academy of Medicine. In that capacity, she provides overall leadership for comprehensive health education programs in the New York City Public Schools. Ms. Goldman has played a pivotal role in establishing a small private initiative in 25 schools in 1979 and expanding it to over 900 schools throughout New York City by 2002. The project is now a national model of how collaborations between the private and public sectors can bring about large-scale change in public institutions.
Ms. Goldman also administers activities that include an array of health programs linking the medical and health communities with the schools in New York City and nationwide. Ms Goldman is responsible for policy formation, program development and implementation, evaluation research, national dissemination, and raising funds to support all the Office of School Health Programs staff and programs.
Prior to assuming her current role, Ms. Goldman worked as a teacher, teacher trainer, NYC Central Board of Education administrator, and a consultant in both the private and public sectors. She has provided technical and consultative assistance to school districts and corporations throughout the country in developing linkages and coalition-building to improve the health of children and adolescents.
Ms. Goldman has been invited to make presentations both locally and nationally on a variety of topics concerning the interface between the medical/health community and the schools. She received a research fellowship for her graduate training in Policy Analysis/Educational Administration at Teacher's College, Columbia University. Ms. Goldman earned an M.A. She is the recipient of many honors and awards, sits on numerous national advisory boards and is a Fellow of The New York Academy of Medicine.
